Set Aside Time To Think About What You Want!

When was the last time you were honest about your life and its direction?

Life seems to travel quickly and so do we. If we want to experience or do something in our lives we need to wake up and step off the hamster wheel, conveyor belt or whatever idiom you like to use for the fast-paced scene in our society.

Rather than settling for the same because it’s what you have been doing for years consider what you REALLY want. Rather than continuing to do the day-in day-out same, boring routine that you’re comfortable with WAKE UP and think about what you want for your life. Yes, you DO have a CHOICE. This may sound obvious to some, but many of us are not grasping this to the point that we are responding to this reality.

I see too many capable, gifted people staying in the same job or industry for decades without considering the alternatives, eventually finding themselves old, tired and unsatisfied. Duh! I also see people wishing they would get, do or experience something in their life year after year, and fail to make any traction. They simply have not set aside time to think about what is important to them, narrow down what they really want and go after it with a laser-like focus. If something is THAT important to us we CAN make it happen. We can deliberately pursue The Life We Were Made For. It is POSSIBLE!

I purposefully created a thorough Life Assessment through the Launch Your Life Workbook, with step-by-step guidance to create a plan for your life and desires. This is a valuable tool that will support you to set aside time to think about what you want AND literally walk you through how to make your dreams a reality. Reflection:

  1. In what areas of your life have you been in “robot mode” and feel the need to wake up?
  2. Is the work you are doing something you ever really wanted to do, or did you just “fall into it”? Do you enjoy doing it? If no, WHY are you still doing it?
  3. If you were to truly move out of your comfort zone in any area of your life, what area(s) would that be?
  4. What would be the first step to move out of your comfort zone in these areas above? List them.
  5. What are your greatest fears about moving out of your comfort zone? List them, and then decide which ones are real or imagined.(For the ones that are real life issues, decide what you will do to overcome them. Will you give yourself a positive, confidence boosting thought to focus on? How about ask someone for support? How about allow yourself to feel any fear you may have and take the first baby step anyway?)

Coaching Challenge: Set aside 5-10 minutes per day to focus yourself and decide what you want to do, experience and contribute that day. Make reflection and evaluation of your life a honed skill by practicing it on a regular basis.

Conclusion: I personally have made reflection and evaluation of my life a regular activity and have benefitted tremendously from it. I challenge you to begin with daily reflection and incorporate more time on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis. This is not go-off-into-la-la-land reflection ooommmm stuff I am talking about here. Although, I certainly see value in meditation (and NOT thinking sometimes!). What I do mean here is before you go off to your job, your office or long list of errands, think about your day, your week and decide what is important to you and what you will do to see that those important things are cared for and addressed.

A longer get away to reflect on your life path may be needed if you haven’t done this in a while. If so, get away for the day and go to the beach or park. Consider taking a day off work, business and other responsibilities. Take the Launch Your Life Workbook with you as a guide! Whatever your dreams and desires for your life, remember IT IS POSSIBLE. Think about how you can make it happen, not why you cannot.
